Nana Julia’s Torta
This recipe has been passed down from my Great-Grandmother, Nana Julia Leveroni. My Grandmother taught me how to make it when I was growing up. It is a dessert that may seem strange to many…but happens to be one of my FaVoRiTeS because every time I take a bite, I think of my Grandmother and all the fun times we shared in the kitchen!

Instructions
  1. Put the bread in a large bowl or pan; you want enough room to mix everything together. Cover the bread with the milk and let it for 5 minutes. Then mix and squish to break up the bread; use your hands it works great. Stir in the beaten eggs.
  2. In a small mixing bowl, stir together sugar, chocolate and spices. Add to bread along with raisins, pine nuts and citron. Mix together well. Once it is all mixed together, stir in the melted butter.
  3. Butter a 13×9 inch Pyrex baking pan. Spread mixture evenly into the pan.
  4. Bake at 375º for 1 hour. Let cool in pan for 1 hour. Cut into squares and serve.
